Personal Projects - Why bother? 🤔

Personal Projects - Why bother? 🤔

generic Published 2 min read

Hello world! How was your week? I’m currently working on updating some of my Angular libraries, but since the beginning of this quarantine I’ve been spending lots of my working hours on a personal project of mine that I called ToDev List, alongside my client projects. In the end, what is the actual benefit of doing such personal projects?

👉🏻 In my opinion the most important one is that they push your knowledge boundaries and grow you as a developer. ⁣ ⁣

🛠️ From structuring the idea to implementing it, since this is your project, you get to make all the decisions. You'll learn how to pick a tech stack that matches your needs, even if you don't know all of the languages involved - you will get to know them along the way. You’ll also have to learn where to store the data, how to encrypt them, how to deploy the whole thing and face many other challenges that you had never faced before. ⁣

🤓 While implementing ToDev List I figured out things such as how to send automated emails, how to create a CI pipeline with CircleCI and AWS and how to deploy real apps on the App and the Play Store - things that I had small or no experience at all before this project.

🥳 Have a nice and productive week! ⁣
